I have been in New England for a number of years now (arrived here in 2001) and have yet to get used to the bleak cold in the tail end of Winter.
I tell Anne and the boys that this extreme winter is what makes the difference in Summer.... we don't take the fine weather for granted like we used to in South Africa.
Everything goes nuts in Spring. The insects, the plants and the people suddenly come out from wherever they have been and swarm into the sun.
But today, pushing slushy snow aside in our driveway for an hour, it feels bleak and cold and the warmth of summer is still a long way off.
